International Students

You are an International Student if:

  • You hold or need to obtain an F-1 or M-1 international student visa. Students seeking this status will receive a separate email with instructions after applying.
  • You hold or will obtain a non-immigrant Visa that permits study at a post-secondary institution. Visit Nonimmigrant: Who Can Study?

Admissions Checklist for International Students

1. Complete the Admissions Application​

2. International / Immigration Documents

  • In-Country Students
    • Passport
    • I-94
    • Visa
    • I-20 if current F-1 status holder
  • Out-of-Country Students
    • Passport
       

3. Financial Support

  • F-1/M-1 visa holders and applicants must provide evidence that they can meet the yearly estimated cost of attendance. 
     

4. English Proficiency

  • All applicants whose native language is not English must provide documentation of language proficiency:
    • TOEFL minimum score 61 within 2 years
    • IELTS minimum score 5.5 within 2 years
    • Duolingo English Test minimum score 90 within 2 years
    • Completion of U.S. high school diploma or U.S. high school equivalency test
    • Completion of English Composition with a “C” or better from a regionally accredited U.S. college
       

5. Submit Official High School and College Transcripts

  • Request official high school and college transcripts. Any high school or college transcripts from outside of the United States must be accompanied by an official evaluation from a NACES member.
  • High school transcript evaluations must include credential and GPA evaluations from a NACES member.
  • College transcripts must have a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member.
     

6. Official Standardized Test Scores (ACT, SAT, etc.)

  • Standardized test scores are used to determine math, reading, and writing placement levels. Scores must be less than five years old based on the student's expected start date.
  • Applicants who have not taken an ACT, SAT, or another acceptable standardized test can take placement testing through the Chattanooga State Testing Center. The test offered is the Accuplacer Next Generation, and the first attempt is free.
  • Transfer credit may be used in place of placement testing in some situations.
  • Applicants who do not provide any placement testing will be placed in math, reading, and writing learning support co-requisite classes.
