This April, Chattanooga State Community College hosted the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society Induction Ceremony, honoring 24 outstanding adult students for their academic excellence and perseverance. The event marked a significant milestone in the academic journeys of these high-achieving non-traditional students.

The ceremony featured a welcome from Dr. Karen Eastman, Vice President of Academic Affairs, followed by an address from 2025 ChattState graduate Amy Dowell. Marsha Goolesby-Barker, Director of Adult Services and Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter Councilor, led the introductions and recognized the 24 inductees with their official membership in Alpha Sigma Lambda.

"This honor recognizes academic excellence, as well as the perseverance and determination it takes to pursue higher education while balancing work, family, and other responsibilities," Goolesby-Barker said. “Membership is by invitation only and reflects a commitment to scholarship, integrity, and lifelong learning."

Alpha Sigma Lambda is the nation’s oldest and most respected honor society for adult learners, with over 75 years of tradition recognizing academic excellence. Representing the top non-traditional students at more than 300 colleges and universities nationwide, the society honors those who exemplify dedication, perseverance, and scholarly achievement in higher education.
